News and Highlights From the Cuba Chamber of Commerce
The Cuba Chamber of Commerce will be meeting on Monday, April 19th at Country Kitchen, 12 noon to 1 PM. This month we will have a return speaker from SCORE, Bob Boyles.
SCORE is a part of the Small Business Administration. They are always ready to help our Small Business Owner.
Mark your calendars for the Annual Chamber Banquet to be held on April 30th at 6 PM. at Recklein Auditorium. The theme this year will be “ The 50”s”. Decorations and food will be prepared by the Cuba Lions Club. . Dress casual in 50’s style for the banquet. At this event you will be introduced to your new Chamber Board members and Awards nominees for the community. Chamber Board members who will be leaving the board are: Doug Lasley, Lesa Mizell, Catherine Lange, (who served one year and will be running again), and Theresa Fudge. Thank you to these board members who have served the past 3 years.
You have returned your ballots for Chamber Board Members, some have returned dues payments and some of you have sent in money for banquet tickets. You may pick up your reserved tickets at the door the night of the banquet or they are ready to be picked up at the Visitor Center. Let us know if you prefer that we send you your tickets. The Chamber Banquet is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Please purchase your tickets as soon as possible for the event.
We appreciate all members of the Cuba Chamber and want to make sure that you know our newest members. The newest members are Main Street Café and Bakery, located on Main Street, Pain Center located on Franklin Street .and Frisco Street B & B located in Steelville. We look forward to seeing new members at our meetings and events.
The Cuba Chamber has started sending a weekly news letter to all members each Monday morning. If you have an event or something that you want members to hear about please send in your information by noon on Friday the week before the newsletter goes out.
The Visitor Center is a Hot Spot for your computer. You can come inside the building or stay in your car and use your computer. This is the free Wireless service provided by the Steelville Telephone Co.
The Visitor Center is now on Summer Hours which are 8 AM to 6 PM daily and Sundays 11AM to 5 PM.
Our volunteers for this month have been Maureen Murphy and Les Murdock. If you have not been in the Visitor Center lately, please stop by and see the display of a fashion that a little girl would wear at the time of the Civil War. The dress was hand made by Helen Wright. We also have the chair about the War Memorial that was in the Chair-I Table Auction. The Mullen brothers brought it in to help encourage people to stop and see the Memorial. Just added to our displays are items for the Chair I Table Auction that will be taking place May 8th 9 AM at Java.net. The Visitor Center is receiving new brochures and coupons every day that will help you with your vacation planning for this year. Visitor from March 5th to April 7th came from France, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Austria, Korea, and Canada. Twenty five states visited, with 270 calls and 472 signing our guest book.
The Chamber is an important part of the community and it is ready to serve. Please join us in our effort to make Cuba the best that it can be. You do not have to be a member of the Chamber to come to our meetings. The Chamber looks forward to seeing you at the April 19th meeting at Country Kitchen (located I-44 and Route 19). You do not need to make a reservation in advance to participate in the meetings.
